Winner won very well. Had it sewn up some way out.
Race 6 Maiden NWFAA
1 Greater Glory R Howarth 5/1
2 Bean Norty L Cooper 16/1
3 Derwent Dealer ? 11/2
14 ran distance and 10L
They went down like skittles, the last one being Miss Tele who was in second when going at the last. Winner has been placed on all previous runs and finally got his head in front.
Abother race with plenty with every chance late on. Red Delta got a typical John Dawson waiting ride and came through to challenge late and won in a driving finish.
Nice day. Good crowd. Seven books operating. Sorry for lateness......been busy reporting........and talking.......... ( a lot!)
Race 1 Conditions (level 2)
1 Glenmount J King 6/4
2 Morozov Cocktail W Easterby 7/1
3 Cullin Hills P Barlow 6/1
14 ran 1L 1L T 6.35.
It was a hell of a race. Cullin Hills blazed a trail in front and ran an absolute stormer on her return from her absence. Glenmount made a bad mistake three out and did well to get back. Morozov Cocktail ran on well late to snatch second.
Race 2 Maiden 4 and 5yo 2m4f
1 Karaka De Thaix D Peters 6/4
2 March On Oxo T Mccain Mitchell 9/4
3 Alan Bresil B Gibbs 4/1
6 ran missed stats but maybe a length and a half and a neck.
Winner was well supported on debut. He led a long way out and looked like winning easier than he did but always looked like he had enough left.
Race 3 Ladies
1 Ballydonagh Boy R Howarth Evens
2 Tap Tap Boom P Brown 10/1
Only two finished.
6 ran 15L T6.47
It had come down to a shoot out over the last half a circuit between the winner and joint fav Buster Valentine. When the latter crashed out three out B B won unchallenged.
If I can perhaps offer one gentle word of advice about the preview, it would be that the Restricted might usefully have made mention of Sunset On Fire.
Yet to find his form in two runs this season, Mr Richardson's son of Flemensfirth is however 2-2 at Charm Park, having won one division of the NWFAA Maiden at this fixture last year and the Restricted at the Derwent three starts later. If you'd taken the biggest prices available at the off about him each time, you'd be sitting on a 36pts level stakes profit.
If his season is to ignite at all, it's likeliest to be back at his happiest hunting ground tomorrow, and with one or two ordinarily better animals lining up against him I'll be seeking out the each-way value wheresoever it can be found.
This broadly harks back to the one piece of advice I was given upon getting the job of writing Paul Newton's Talking Point phoneline previews a zillion years ago. Namely, always flag up previous form, but in particular previous course winners, as connections of those horses like it when you do and signposting animals that develop from repeat course winners to bona fide course specialists is seen as a perceptive, good thing.
That has in part informed the information I've provided in advance for Alex Guilford and Malcolm Tomlinson at their respective Yorkshire point engagements in recent years. I wasn't there in person at Dalton Park last March, but I'd hope that Malcolm being able to big up Matts Commission's winning there for the fourth time in as many visits last March will have been appreciated by all concerned.
